Property in Newport

As the Island's county town, Newport has one of the widest mixes of housing on the Isle of Wight. The historic centre has Georgian and Victorian houses and cottages, some of them listed, while the outskirts include interwar and post-war housing and a number of newer estates.

Each has its own typical issues:

  • Period properties in the centre and Carisbrooke - solid walls, older timber roof structures, and a history of alterations that is not always documented.
  • Interwar and post-war houses - original roof coverings and windows reaching the end of their life, wall tie condition in cavity walls, and later extensions.
  • Newer homes - usually in better condition, though it is still worth checking workmanship, drainage and ventilation, and confirming what warranties are in place.

Low-lying properties near the River Medina may also be at risk of flooding, which your conveyancer will check as part of their searches.

Which Survey?

We carry out both the RICS Level 2 Home Survey and the RICS Level 3 Home Survey in Newport. The right one depends on the age, construction and condition of the property, and on any changes you plan to make. If you are unsure, call us before you book and Joel will advise.
