JMD Building Consultancy is an award-winning, RICS regulated surveying practice based in Ryde and serving the whole of the Isle of Wight. We carry out residential and commercial building surveys, and advise homeowners, buyers, landlords, tenants and businesses.
The practice is run by Joel MacDonald BSc(Hons) MRICS, a chartered building surveyor who has worked in the property and construction industry since 1999.

About Joel
Joel became a Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2010. Before setting up JMD in 2024 he worked for surveying practices on the south coast, dealing with building defects, dilapidations claims and construction projects for commercial and public sector clients.
That experience carries over directly to residential surveys. Much of the Island's housing is older, of solid wall construction and exposed to coastal weather. Knowing how these buildings were put together, and how they deteriorate, is central to a useful survey.
Joel is also an External Examiner for the University of the Built Environment and an Associate of the Ethical Property Foundation.
