Property in Freshwater and Totland

Freshwater has older stone cottages and farmhouses, particularly around the church and the Causeway, as well as Victorian and Edwardian villas and a large amount of twentieth-century housing and bungalows. Totland and Colwell grew as Victorian seaside resorts, with larger villas above the bays and later development behind them.

Issues we commonly look at in the area include:

  • exposure to wind and salt air on seafront and elevated properties
  • ground stability near the cliffs at Totland Bay and Colwell Bay, where parts of the coastline have a history of landslips and further investigation may be needed
  • flood risk on low-lying land along the Western Yar and around Freshwater Bay, which your conveyancer will check as part of their searches
  • older stone properties with solid walls, where damp is often misdiagnosed and treated in the wrong way
  • extensions and loft conversions to bungalows and houses, and whether they appear to have been properly built

Which Survey?

We carry out both the RICS Level 2 Home Survey and the RICS Level 3 Home Survey in Freshwater and Totland. The right one depends on the age, construction and condition of the property, and on any changes you plan to make. If you are unsure, call us before you book and Joel will advise.
